A Week of "S"

This week has been loaded with all kinds of things that start with the letter "S."

Summit
Sunday we drove to Abilene for ACU's Summit and were there through Wednesday.  I'm not going to lie, when I was a student at ACU I didn't particularly love Summit, or then known as Lectureship.  However, now I LOVE it!  It's kinda like camp for adults.  They have some great classes & speakers and you want to know what-- it's all free!  {They even have childcare that is free!}  It really is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other Christians and grow in your faith.  As an added bonus, Lantz won the giveaway for a free ipad this year!

Stomach Bug
Yes.... it hit.  It was horrible.  Poor Sawyer was the first victim.  About 15 minutes after leaving Abilene, she started throwing up.  Oh, it was bad.... our whole van smelled like vomit.  Agh.  The 3 & 1/2 hour trip home turned into a 6 hour trip.  I think she threw up 6 times on the way home, each time resulting in us pulling over to clean her and everything else up.  Bless her heart.  Her last round was at 10:00 right after we got home.  Luckily she slept peacefully through the night and woke up feeling much better.  Early Friday morning about 3:30am Kennedie woke up vomiting.  Lantz and I were up with her through a couple of rounds and then he was so sweet and made a pallet beside Kennedie's bed and stayed beside her the rest of the night.  She only had one more round at 6am.  Luckily the rest of the day she felt better.  I'm thankful it didn't hit Kennedie as hard as it hit Sawyer.  I'm also thankful that Lantz and I have not gotten sick yet.  I pray that we won't.

Sonogram
Thursdau morning I headed to the doctor (by myself which wasn't fun-- it was my first sono by myself, but Lantz needed to stay back with Sawyer and K had preschool) for another sonogram.  Since the first sonogram the baby was measuring 7 weeks instead of 8 the doctor wanted to see me back just to make sure that the baby looked healthy and was growing good.  I was blessed to see a little wiggle worm on the screen!  It was so cute to see my little gummy-bear shaped baby just wiggling away!  Doctor Robert assured me that everything looked great & that the heartbeat was strong.  She was very impressed that the baby decided to do so much wiggling for us so early on.  Be still my heart.  It was amazing. Here is our little bear at 9 weeks and 1 day:

Steel Magnolias
Thursday night we went to McKinney North High School's performance of Steel Magnolias to see one of our awesome youth group kids perform as Turvy.  Ryann did a great job & we had lots of fun watching all of her hard work and dedication pay off with a great performance!

Sister's Sleepover
Last night Kennedie asked if Sawyer could sleep with her.  It was so sweet.  I laid both the girls in Kennedie's bed and they got so excited to lay down together.  I figure it's the first of many sister sleepovers.  I wish I could tell you that they did great, but after about an hour of giggling Sawyer finally got fussy.  She was so tired and was having a hard time falling asleep in K's bed, so I had to put her back in her crib.  I figure we've got loads of sleepovers headed our way, but last night was special because it was our {semi} first one.

Soup
I've got a pot of soup on the crockpot right now for dinner in honor of the cooler weather this week!  I'm so grateful for such a nice day today-- it was actually a tad chilly this morning which felt great!

New York Day 4 & 5

Why yes, my birthday trip to New York was over 2 months ago & I'm finally finishing blogging about it.  That's the way I roll.  Again, I'm just proud that I'm documenting it all.  If this is your first read of our trip- Lantz surprised me with a trip to New York for my birthday.  Hit the "travel" label over on the bottom right of the blog to read about all our adventures & the way Lantz surprised me.  Day 4 & 5 we still did a ton, but we didn't take as many pictures as the other days-- just an FYI.

DAY FOUR
So we decided to start our day off at the Today Show.  We thought we'd go & experience not just the show itself, but also their Friday Summer Concert Series-- John Mayer.  {Bad idea.}  We knew we needed to get there earlier than the show started if we wanted some standing room, but apparently you need to just camp out the night before.  We showed up at 6:30am and it was way too late.  We ended up standing in a baracade for like 3 hours only to hear ONE John Mayer song (and one warm-up song).  We did see him {from the back}, but it so wasn't worth it.  We left.  We were hungry.  We really aren't John Mayer fans-- just there to check it all out.  NOT.WORTH.IT.

So, like I said.... we were pretty hungry by this point.  We decided we definitely needed to hit up a New York bagel store.  We ended up at Ess-a-Bagels, which were super yummy!  We both got coffee & Lantz got a cinnamon raisin bagel & I got an 'everything' bagel.

From Ess-a-Bagel we decided to walk up to Grand Central Station & check it out.  It was HUGE & way fun to people watch.  We walked around for awhile and checked things out downstairs.  Kinda like a mini-mall.

Ummm... thanks lady who took our picture.... it was so nice, but next time will you focus us please?

From Grand Central Station we caught our first subway to SoHo.  We walked around there a bit, and then started making our way to Little Italy & Chinatown.  On our way we stopped at a little taco stand that my friend Trae and his wife (who live in NY) recommended to us.  It was called La Esquina.  It was super good!  I got fish tacos & Lantz got a steak taco & a Mexican corn on the cobb.  This place was a perfect quick stop-- cheap & yummy.  Lantz got a cannoli in Little Italy-- it was yummy too!

We walked through Little Italy & Chinatown for a bit & did a little "window" shopping.  It took us a while to figure out how the whole thing worked, but we finally learned that you had to ask if you were looking for something specific.  People would run off somewhere & bring something back to you in a secretive way for you to look at.  Kinda shady.  Lantz got some "Oakleys."  :)

You know- found a sign with our name on it & had to take a picture. :) Just being tourists.
We then took the subway back up to the NBC studio.  We went to reserve our tickets for a tour the next day.  We then made a pit stop at Magnolia's Bakery for some banana pudding (which someone who lived there said was amazing), but it wasn't that great.  I have a really fantastic banana pudding recipe {Thanks to Paula Deen-- try it out -- you won't be disappointed I promise!!! Here is the LINK-- I mean if the name doesn't do it for you, I don't know what will-- "Not Yo' Mama's Banana Pudding"."}, so Magnolia's really didn't stand a chance.  We should have tried something else from there.

We then headed back to our hotel to clean up for a nice dinner at Campagnola.  Some sweet friends recommended this place to us & treated us for my birthday.  To say it was AMAZING would be an understatement.  So non-touristy, & very much old-school.  We LOVED it!  We ordered the T-bone steak, broccoli/spinach saute with roasted garlic, & arugula salad.  Our meal also came with an appetizer tray of anti-pasta, some bread, and some little cookies at the end.  It was so delicious!  My mouth is watering just typing and thinking about it!  Thanks Jim & Amy!

When then when on a nice walk up to Central Park & through one of the "fancy" neighborhoods.

We then took the subway back up to Times Square and ended up at a Crumbs Bakery for some more dessert.  I got a milkshake cupcake (marble cake with cookies & cream filling, vanilla frosting with chocolate sauce and cookie crumbs), and Lantz got a coffee-toffee cupcake (vanilla cake, mocha icing with toffee pieces).  To be honest they sound much better than they tasted.  The cake was pretty dry.  Plus we are spoiled with amazing cupcakes by my friend Andrea-- she makes incredible gourmet cupcakes!  If you are local, contact me & I can get you her info. if you are interested.  We ended the night by walking through H&M & Urban Outfitters for some window shopping.  Then back to the hotel to eat our cupcakes there.  We only ate a few bites (since they were not that great) and packed them to take back for the girls.

Last night in hotel view from room:

DAY FIVE

This was our last day in New York.  We got up early and checked out of our hotel & had them store our bags.  We got a coffee from Starbucks & bought a souvenir mug for our collection.  (We collect Starbucks mugs from all the major cities that we travel to {except for our Europe trip-- we couldn't backpack with like 8 mugs so we only got one from our last stop in Paris}).

Last day pic in hotel:

We decided that we would hit up a donut store that had been recommended to us.  We hoped on the subway and unfortunately got off at the wrong stop.  We decided to walk and check out the scenery.  We finally ended up at Donut Plant.  Let me tell you... if you want the most amazing donut you will ever eat in your whole life you must go here.  It was super sweet & more along the lines of dessert, but you can't wait too long in the day to go by because they totally sell out.  We were there super early and they had already sold out some of their more popular flavors.  We got a coconut cream and a coconut lime--- we like coconut.  Both were AMAZING!  The shop itself was really cool too.  We would highly recommend this place.

Loved this wall of pillows.  They are all handmade especially for this store & each one represents one of their donut flavors.

Gone!

We walked over to the original C.O. Bigalow Pharmacy and got Lantz's mom some soap and lotion for watching the girls for us.

We decided we walk down to Chinatown again to do some more "shopping."  On the way we stopped at a Papaya store to get a large Pina-Colada flavored drink (coconut & pineapple) and we ended up walking through a Saturday market & checking out some of the things for sale.  We walked through Chinatown again for about an hour looking for something for me to buy.  I thought I should at least get something from New York.  But I couldn't find anything I liked & I didn't really care for a knock-off of some name-brand something or other.

We took the subway back up to Rockefeller Plaza for our tour of the NBC studio.  We got to see where Brian Williams films, Saturday Night Live stage, and also the Jimmy Falon show.  I also got volunteered to pretend to do be a news anchor.  It was fun.  You couldn't take pictures once the tour started, so here is our ticket & Lantz waiting for the tour to start:

After the tour we headed over to a sandwich place called Lenny's.  We both had a sandwich with corned beef, pastrami, coleslaw & Russian dressing.  We've had a sandwich like this in the past, so we were expecting it to be as good, but it was just okay.  Nothing to write home about.

We then headed back to our hotel to grab our bags.  We had a bit of a mishap because we thought we left Lantz's phone charger in the room but they would let us go in and see since someone else had already checked into the room.  It was kinda a huge ordeal, but it actually was a big misunderstanding.  And it all worked out because Lantz actually had it in his bag... he just checked the wrong place. Ha!

We took the bus back to the airport.  At the airport we had a free pass to the United Club, so we hung out in there for about an hour.  We snacked on some cheese & crackers, trail mix, nuts, chocolate covered raisins, carrots and some fruit tea to drink.

Last view of the city:

All in all it was a super trip & I have the most incredible husband ever!

We were sad to leave New York:

But we were so excited to get home to see out girls:

Thanks Lantz for an amazing 30th birthday surprise trip!!!  I'm one lucky lady!!

Sawyer is 19 Months Old

I can't believe that this little pumpkin-doodle is already another month older!  (Doesn't she just look so big in this picture?)  Where or where does the time go?  I also can't believe that she is old enough to be a big sister.  I have been praying for her & this new transition heading her way.  I've been praying that the Lord would prepare her heart to be a big sister and to fall into the position naturally and also that she will still feel our love for her so deeply.

Precious Sawyer Sue:
- This month the biggest change was that Kennedie started going to school two days a week which meant that you & I have gotten to have some amazing Sawyer & Mommy time!  I truly treasure these days where it is just the two of us.  We have never known what it's like for it to just be us.  The first day we kinda weren't sure what to do.  We both just kept looking at each other like, "Now what?"  We were both so used to your sister "entertaining" you and keeping us both so busy.  I think we've got it down now though, and it's been fun for both of us to just play together & snuggle.
- On that note, since we get up a little earlier on those two days you and I have started snuggling together in Mommy's bed for a little cat nap.  It's been nice to cuddle up with you & crash.  You otherwise have dropped down to only one nap a day formally although sometimes you'll randomly catch a morning nap in the car if we are running errands.
- So you are kinda at one nap a day about 2 hours and then some cat naps in the morning anywhere from 10 minutes in the car to 45 minutes in bed with me.
- You have tried to start vocally saying more, but you still aren't able to pronounce words very well.  You have really gotten your signing down, but to be honest you are not talking much at all.  Really no more than last month-- but you are tying to make the sounds which is so cute!
- You have tried to start running this month which equals some skinned knees.  Your little legs just can't quit keep up with how fast you are wanting to move, but you are getting there!
- You are still quit bothered by your sister if she takes something from you, but it seems like you guys play so well together.  Every day it seems you two play even better than the day before.  I love that you two really are becoming friends.  So sweet.
- You have also gotten at least 2 more teeth this month (maybe more but it's hard for me to tell).
- When you get excited you will kind of grunt/yell in a deep voice "Whooooo, ohhhh, ohhhh." It's so cute, but kinda hard to type out exactly what it sounds like.
- One thing is for sure- you don't want to be left out.  If Kennedie is eating something or doing something, or going somewhere you want to do the same thing!  So sweet!

My sweet Sawyer, my heart feels as if it could explode when I think of the great love I have for you.  Everyday you teach me more about God's great love for me and for that I am so grateful.  You are so sweet and gentle.  You have the most precious demeanor about you.  I love your little face that you make when you get embarrassed or if you think people are looking at you.  It's become your signature face and I could just eat it up it's so cute!  You put your chin to your chest to try to hide your eyes, but then you look up and try your hardest not to smile.  I love the new little time that we've gotten with each other.  I treasure the new snuggle time that we get together.  You are my special daughter of whom I'm so proud.  I love you more than you will ever know sweet girl.

April 23, 2014

...... That is the due date of our third child!!!  We are so incredibly excited about the Lord blessing us with another sweet baby!

Here is our little rockstar at 7 weeks:

It's all been so fast & so exciting!

On August 13th I took a pregnancy test to confirm what I thought {and deeply hoped} was true.  It was so exciting to see two lines & know that the Lord had heard our prayers!  I took the test the first thing when I woke up and waited {as patiently as possible} for two minutes before I peeked at the test.  Once I saw the confirmation I was ecstatic!!  I couldn't wait to tell Lantz.  He was working out and as soon as he got home I quickly went back to our room and brought the test back out to show him!  We were both super excited & beaming!  Here is our "we just found out" picture:

It was so fun to just have a little secret between the two of us.  Although, funny story, Kennedie had randomly been telling people that "Mommy has a baby in her belly" several times over the last month.  I chalked it up to us having been praying "for God to grow a baby in Mommy's belly."  I guess she knew something we hadn't!  Love that!  We knew Kennedie would be so excited to find out, but we also knew that she would share the news with everyone, so we wanted to wait to tell her & Sawyer until we knew we were ready for everyone to find out.

We went to the doctor a week later to have blood work done & discuss the possible due date.  Originally we thought that our sweet baby would have the due date of August 14, 2014.   We then got to set up our sonogram appointment for September 6.  We decided that we would take the girls with us to the appointment & let Kennedie & Sawyer seen the screen with the picture of the baby to let them know that there was indeed a little baby growing inside my belly.  We thought it would be the perfect time for them to find out.

Well Labor Day was on September 2nd and we were dying to tell our family so we decided we would let them know before the sonogram so that they could be praying.  We decided to take a family picture and text it to them.  Here is what they got:

Kennedie & Sawyer didn't really know why they were holding paper for  the picture, and we didn't tell them.  We knew we wanted to wait until the sonogram to let them know, but this was a fun way we decided to let our family know.  Needless to say, they were all thrilled!  It was also kinda fun to let them know all at the "same" time because we sent the text out at the exact time to Lantz's parents, his sister, my parents, and my sister.  It was neat to sit & see who would call first!

Later that week we got to go in for the sonogram and we took the girls with us.  We couldn't wait for them to find out!  We thought I'd be almost 9 weeks pregnant and it would be a good time to let the rest of the world know.

I wish I could explain to you the look on Kennedie's face when she saw the sonogram and we explained with that little "peanut" was on the screen.  She was SO excited!  Both our girls love playing with baby dolls and Kennedie especially loves seeing and holding babies at church.  Kennedie was tickled pink!  Sawyer didn't quit understand, but she was of course in a happy mood like always!  I'm sure she'll understand more and more as time goes on.  It was just so amazing to see that little heartbeat and to know that God is forming another little person inside of me again!

What we did learn at that sonogram appointment was that the baby was actually measuring about 10 days smaller than what the thought the original due date was.  So instead of being almost nine weeks I was barely 7 weeks pregnant.  Whoa! Once Kennedie knew- we knew that the cat was out of the bag!  It was fun to let her tell a few people Friday and Saturday.  On Sunday we let the teens know during class and then let our church family know during service since Lantz had announcement duty.  We just showed our above family picture!

Everyone has been so sweet & so excited for us!  It's so neat to know God is creating another little miracle inside of me again.  We truly just feel blessed.

I am currently 8 weeks pregnant.  I have been more sick this time around, but my doctor recommended some medicine (all natural & completely safe for the baby) for me and once I started taking that I really haven't had any issues.  I primarily have just been SOOOOO tired.  I have napped almost every day for the last two weeks.  It's been nice to have the opportunity to lay down while the girls rest, but needless to say the house chores & my blogging have been lacking.  {Who am I kidding, my blogging has been lacking for awhile now!  Ha!}  Overall things have been great so far though.  I do have to go in for another sonogram next week so that the doctor can see more since the baby was much smaller than anticipated last time.

So I started belly pictures and here is where we are so far (I feel like I am already starting on that pregnant shape!):

Again, we are just beyond excited!  We would love for you to join us in praying for our newest little one.  We know that God hears our prayers and we are just so grateful for this blessing that HE has already given to us.
