One Week!!

Holy Cow!!! I can't believe that I've been a mom for a whole week. Time flies by when you get to love the most beautiful little girl in the whole world. I am truly captivated by her it's not even funny.

In one week she's lost 7 ounces & gained back at least 5 since the doctor's appointment on Wednesday. I'm guessing she's actually over her birth weight now.

In one week Kennedie is also eating great. She's been eating roughly every 2 & 1/2 hours. Lately she's been awake quit a bit during the day & sleeping great at night in between feedings.

In one week she's also been enjoying playing dress up with her mommy.

In one week Kennedie has also gotten to meet lots of friends & her Momma D (my mom).

In one week the most important mile stone Kennedie has accomplished is stealing out hearts!

Splish Splash

WOW! We are having so much fun with our princess and our gracious gift from God. Kennedie has changed our lives and perspective in ways that are indescribable. People always say that you will not understand a lot of things until you have your own kids and I (Lantz) always brushed it off as no big deal. Well, unless you have kids you understand what I am talking about--otherwise you will not understand until you have your own kids.

This week has already flown by and Kennedie is almost a week old.

We have been busy hanging out with grandma, which will be known as Momma D.

Taking baths. We enjoyed our our first walk to the park. She already had her first Dr. appointment.

Oh yeah, her Momma D brought some of Jessica's baby clothes (crazy right, to keep clothes for 26 years) and they have been playing dress up with her and making her look like a little porcelain doll.

(This post was written by Dad. Making sure momma gets some rest. )

Kennedie's First Days

We are truly blessed with amazing friends in Las Vegas. Here are some of those friends who had an opportunity to come and visit Kennedie in the hospital. Thanks for showing us support, and love while we celebrate this gift from God together.

On our way...

We are about to leave for the hospital..... AHH!!! I'm so nervous & so excited all at the same time! I don't think I've ever felt such a rush of mixed emotions in my whole life. I can't wait to hold my little girl.... and even more so I can't wait to see Lantz hold her. My husband is the best ever, & I know he's going to be the best father ever. One of the reasons I feel in love with Lantz was because of his love for children. He is so great with kids, and hopefully starting today I get to see how great he is with OUR children.

Keep us in your prayers!!!!

40 Weeks

WOW! I really didn't think that I'd be posting up pictures of myself at 40 weeks pregnant. I honestly thought that she'd follow in my footsteps and be 2 weeks early... so in my head she is already 2 weeks late! I guess that shows you that each child has a mind of their own. At 40 weeks I feel like a house.... I'm ready for my sweet little girl to come on out so I can hold her & kiss her & love on her. I'm also ready to start getting my body back & not feeling like a humongo mountain.

In honor of me making it to 40 weeks I thought I'd be vulnerable & show you the bare belly. I know-- this will be the first bare belly photo that I've put up... but I thought, "Hey why not?" And in honor of me hopefully working hard over the next few months to get my body back I thought I'd post up a little inspiration of what I looked like pre- pregnancy. As yall know Lantz and I were really busting our booties with p90x before Kennedie came into the picture. I've still been working out, but obviously not as hard. So, I thought I'd share a picture of myself pre-baby so I will hopefully have some accountability to get back in shape as soon as I get the hang of this whole "mommy" thing.

So... 9 months ago/ pre- pregnancy (in all honesty I was already 5 or 6 weeks pregnant here):

Wow! I hope I can get back to that soon..... ugh... it's going to be hard.

And now for the not so pretty, need a tan, 9 months pregnant, bare belly photo:

Ummm... yeah... so talk about exposing yourself for the world. Don't judge. Give me a few months & hopefully I'll be close to being back to my original size.... or at least right now in my mindset I am really wanting to start working out & trying to get back to there.

Okay... so tomorrow at 8:00 am we go into the hospital at which time they will remove the balloon & I should be dialated at a 4 & then they are going to get me rolling into labor! My prayer is that I will have a smooth & quick labor & that my baby girl is safe & healthy. Please keep us in your prayers, & who knows.... maybe the next post will be all about our Miss Kennedie Danyelle!

Balloon is a Go

Today Lantz and I went to the doctor's again. This time the balloon attempt was successful, so right now I've got it in me & it is hopefully doing its job to dialate me. (PS- found out that the technical name for the balloon is a foley bulb.) Today was not nearly as painful as an attempt as Monday- I didn't even cry.

Our doctor did cancel our Thursday morning hospital appointment & moved it to Friday morning at 8:00. So, Friday they will be pulling the balloon out & that should get me moving right into labor soon after. So.... I figure that Friday or Saturday I'll be holding my little girl--- yeah!!! (Who knows- she can still come on her own tonight or tomorrow balloon or no balloon!)

The doctor did say it was good that we are doing the balloon because my placenta is a grade 3 which means it's time to start trying to get her out of there.

I have been having some contractions about 35 minutes to an hour apart, but only 15-30 seconds long. Better than nothing.

Mom moved her airline ticket back a week so that she could be with me when I leave the hospital & that allows more help at home instead of in the hospital when I have nurses there.

Please continue to keep us in your prayers! I guess tomorrow I'll post up a 40 week picture!

God's Promises for Girls Book Review

I recently got God's Promises for Girls in the mail from Thomas & Nelson Publishers & & I was excited to see if it would be a good spiritual book that I could read to Kennedie. It was smaller than I had pictured it would be- I was thinking it'd be like a big story book that we cuddled up & read together, but instead it was more compact. It did have a cute little cover though.

The book is broken up into seven sections: "God's Promises When...", "God's Promises About...", "God Wants You To...", "God's Promises of Help When...", "God's Promises about Making a Difference", "God's Promises about Jesus," & "God's Promises for You." Under each section there are several different topics that are discussed. Each topic is 2 pages long. Each part starts with the title of the section and topic followed by a cute little rhyme that relates to the topic. After that it is followed by 3-4 scriptures- some from the Old Testament & some from the New. Finally there is a small picture that relates to the topic.

I was a bit disappointed with the layout. I liked that there was more than one scripture to relate to each topic, but the rhyme was short & the picture was small considering it is a children's book. I feel that if the book was larger with longer rhymes & bigger pictures then it would have been great because it would probably hold the attention of smaller children longer. It's definitely a book that you could only read one or two topics at a time. It would be good to turn to a topic that is relevant to what your child might be feeling at the time, or what you might be trying to teach them about that day.

My favorite section of the book was "God's Promises about Jesus"- the scriptures tied excellently to the topic presented. My favorite rhyme was from the "God Wants You to..." section- the topic was "Learn More About Him." The rhyme reads:
"A love truer than Prince Charming's,
A story better than a fairy tale-
Read all about your King, your God,
Who loves and knows you well."

I would rate this book 2 out of 5 stars. It is not horrible or bad- I just found it to be a bit disappointing based on what I was expecting to receive.

Wedding, Serendipity, Survivor & Balloon

Saturday was a great day. I decided I was not going to focus on the fact that Kennedie hasn't made her appearance. Instead I decided to focus on our marriage. So I planned the day. We slept in a little, went on a 2 mile walk with Cooper, ate breakfast at The Original Pancake House (a place we have been wanting to try but hadn't yet-- it was really yummy), went to Floyd Lamb State Park for the Farmer's Market & to walk around enjoying the scenery, home to get ready for the wedding, the wedding, and then desert down on the strip at Serendipity. We had a fantastic day, & I'm so thankful for our relationship.

Lantz did a great job at the wedding... and he looked so good! My man is a hottie, and it was so neat to watch him officiate his first wedding. (Eric & Danielle looked great too... I was just a too focused on my man!) The wedding colors were red & white with a bit of a picnic flair to it. Everyone wore white converse sneakers.... so cute! Here are a few pictures from the wedding:

After the wedding Lantz and I went down to Caesars Palace on the strip to Serendipity. On the travel channel they always seem to have a feature about Serendipity in New York. About a month ago we made the connection that the one here in Las Vegas is the same one as the one in New York. I think there are 2 in NY and then the only one outside of NY is here in LV. Anywho- we have been talking about going down and trying it out. They are known for their awesome desserts, and more specifically their frozen hot chocolate. So after the wedding we went down for a yummy frozen hot chocolate, & it was of course super yummo! It's a little expensive, so we won't be going down for one all the time, but it was a fun little treat. Here are some photos:

So, last night we watched the Survivor finale.... I'm not going to lie I was a tad disappointed with it. I don't really think I had anyone in mind to win, and I think I would have been disappointed with any of the final players winning. First off I think that Survivor is a game with 4 elements: physical strength, social game, strategy, & luck. Sandra won with only 2 out of the 4 elements- social game & luck. She had no physical game or strategy. On the other hand Russell, who was a complete jerk, had plenty of luck, physical strength, & tons of strategy lacked a social game completely. Parvati, who I didn't really like this season but have in past ones, had all 4 of the elements to some degree... so I guess she should have won... but she didn't. Oh well. Enough of that... don't really know what to say about it except that I enjoyed this season more than any others but the finale was the worst one I've ever seen.

Alright... so now for the Kennedie update. There are 3 days until her due date, although I'm a little skeptical that she'll be here then.... I have a feeling I have a late baby on my hands, or in my belly I should say. So today was the balloon procedure. I was super excited about it when I went in today. I asked my doctor what the percentage was that I'd be in labor on Thursday after the balloon & she was like: 95- 97%!!! Wow!!! I was so pumped because then I had this peace that okay probably at the latest I'll be holding Miss K by Thursday (her due date).

Well, the ballooning did not go very good at all. Apparently my cervix was not cooperating & I was extremely closed up. (P.S. It was very painful although under the right circumstances I'm told it's not supposed to be. My body was just not cooperating with the balloon.) Super long story short- I was not dialated when I went in today, but with all that went on with the balloon I'm at least at 1cm, but no balloon. So.... we are trying the balloon again on Wednesday to see if my body is in any better condition to handle it. There is still a chance I can go in on Thursday to have the balloon removed & go into labor at that point. We are going to talk on Wednesday though to see if we need to move the Thursday hospital appointment back to the weekend. So yeah, that is the update on all that is happening with K.

Please keep us in your prayers. It would be such a blessing if she just came on her own before Wednesday so I don't even have to deal with the whole balloon thing. I have cried alot today-- I'm not going to lie. I'm a bit disappointed that I am not already holding her. I know that God has a plan & purpose & that His timing is excellent... it's just still so hard to not wish her here already. Thanks again for the prayers.

Rehersal Dinner

Tonight Lantz and I went to a rehersal dinner for Eric & Danielle. They are getting married tomorrow, and Lantz is officiating the wedding. This will be Lantz's first wedding to do, so it's pretty exciting! Eric was in the youth group our first year out here in Vegas & he was one of our first kids to graduate from the youth group. It's so weird for him to be getting married.... that just means that we are getting older than what we think!

Kennedie is still not here. Eric & Danielle have a back up officiant just in case, but with the looks of things she seems to be fairly content & in no hurry to make an appearance. If she does come tomorrow maybe it will be after the wedding. Any who... here is a picture of Lantz, Eric, & Danielle going through the ceremony tonight:

39 Weeks

Well, today marks 39 weeks. To be honest, I'm surprised we've made it this far. I really thought that she'd come early.... maybe I was just hoping for it, but either way I still can't believe that she's not here. We had our doctor's appointment today and nothing has changed since last week. I am still not dialated and I'm still only 60% efaced. The doctor said it's okay because I've softened & I'm dropped which are both good signs. Monday I'll go in for a balloon which will manually start dialating me.

My prayer is that she'll come all on her own before the whole balloon thing on Monday, or that she'll come soon after. It would just be great if she'd make an appearance sometime on Sunday.... that just seems like a great time! Any guesses on when you think Kennedie will make her grand entrance?

Anyways, hopefully I will not be posting a 40 week picture next week. My prayer is that my sweet little girl comes between now and then & that she is safe and healthy.

Thanks for all your prayers, and keep 'em coming! Hopefully sooner rather than later I'll be getting to post up some pictures of our Miss K instead of my big belly.

Italian Sausage Tortellini Soup

I know right??? 2 posts in a row = recipes. I told Lantz that he should enjoy it now, because in 8 days (Can you believe it??? 8 DAYS!!!!) I probably won't be cooking much, or any for awhile. So this one was pretty stinking easy, and it made ALOT. I know it's a hot soup & it sure is May, but it has been pretty chilly in Vegas this week. Yesterday we didn't even make it into the 70s, so this dish was great. This would be good for a small group, or if you are looking for leftovers.

Italian Sausage Tortellini Soup

-1 lb ground Italian Sausage (mild or hot- your choice)
-2 lbs of Tortellini (I found 1 lb bags on sale for cheap in the frozen section & it only took 3 min. to cook, & I used cheese tortellini, but any kind would do.)
- 1 pkg of frozen spinach
- 1/2 yellow onion
- 2 cloves of minced garlic
- 2 - 3 cans of Campbell's minestrone soup (I used 3 & it was alot- I'll probably use 2 next time)
- 1 lrg can crushed tomatoes
- 1 lrg pkg of chicken broth
- 1 & 1/2 cups of water
- Italian Seasonings
- Shredded mozzarella cheese

Chop onion into small pieces. Brown onion, garlic, & Italian sausage in a pot. Drain fat. Add cans of Minestrone soup. Defrost frozen spinach. Drain. Add to soup mixture. Add Italian seasonings (your call-- a few shakes here and there to taste). Add can of crushed tomatoes. Heat. In another larger pot put chicken broth & water. Bring to a boil & add tortellini & cook according to package directions. Once tortellini is cooked add the Italian sausage/ soup mixture to the pot of chicken broth & tortellini. Stir together & heat for a few minutes.

Serve topped with mozzarella cheese & garlic bread... yummy!!! Enjoy!

Thai Chicken Salad

So, I know I've been a slacker lately about posting up some new recipes. If I'm honest- I just haven't had time to try new things... I've totally been recycling the old recipes. I'm super excited to share a new, quick, easy, & healthy recipe with you tonight though. Lantz and I have a restaurant here in Las Vegas that we love to go to because they have an amazing Thai chicken salad, so I thought I'd try my hand at making it..... and you know what??? It was really yummy & basically tasted the exact same! This is great news because now I can just make it & it'll save us some money.

- Grilled chicken breast
- Romain lettuce
- tomatoes
- cucumber
- carrot
- peanuts
- cilantro
-bean sprouts
- avocado
- peanut sauce

Grill up some chicken breasts glazed with the peanut sauce. (Lantz and I were able to split one, but if you want lots of meat or your chicken breasts are small then grill 2.)

While the chicken is on the grill you can wash & cut up the Romaine lettuce. Cut up tomatoes in small pieces (I like the small cherub tomatoes cut up in half-- but they are more expensive). With a potato peeler peel 1/2 of cucumber. Chop cucumber very fine. Peel outside of carrot & peel very carrot pieces for salad. Pull cilantro off of the steams to your liking (we like lots of cilantro). Cut avocado in small bite sized pieces.

Add lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, carrot, avocado, bean sprouts, cilantro, & peanuts to a plate. After chicken is done chop into bite sizes & add to the top of the salad. Then add peanut sauce to the top. (*Note about peanut sauce- you can find this in the oriental isle of your grocery store. Our store had 3 different jars to pick from-- I think any would be just fine. I picked the cheapest, but it was really yummy. Just a warning also- our peanut sauce was pretty spicy, so if you don't like spicy then don't use much.)

Here is what the finished product looked like & a picture of the peanut sauce:

Happy eating!

Oh... only 10 more days until Miss K's due date!!! Wa-hoo!! I hope she comes out sooner though- I'm ready to meet her, and everything is ready for her arrival. The last thing we had to do was get her car seat checked at a safety point, and we did that Saturday. So now we are ready to bring her home!!! Please keep us in your prayers during these last few days.

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day Momma! I wish that I could be there with you today as the world celebrates great moms. I'm so thankful to have you as my momma & every day I praise God for placing me in my family with such awesome parents. My prayer is that I can be just as great a mom for Kennedie as you have been for me. I hope that one day Kennedie and I will have the special friendship that you and I share. Thank you for being such a great mom & I know that you are going to be just as great of a "Momma D." I love you & I can't wait to see you soon!

38 Weeks & Some Sweetness

Well, above you can see what I look like at 38 weeks. I can't believe there are only 2 weeks left until her due date. What is even crazier is that my mom said that I was exactly 2 weeks early- so if Kennedie were like her mommy she'd be making an appearance today. I kinda wish she were. I mean... I know that God's timing will be perfect for her to enter this world, but I'm so ready to meet her. I really wish that she'd come next week. I think one week early would be fabulous.

I saw the doctor today and I am 60% effaced & a big fat zero as far as dialation goes. My doctor set up an appointment for the 17th for me to be "ballooned." Basically she described it as an old school inducing type thing that will help open my cervix but allow me to live life as normal for a few days without laying in a hospital bed. Whatever. I'm not so up to date with medical stuff, but I really like her and trust her, so I'm sure she knows what she is doing. Again... I hope we don't get to the whole balloon thing & she just comes all on her own before then.

Okay... now some major sweetness. Lantz and I got free coupons from Facebook for Einstein's Bagels, so we decided to have a bagel date this morning before our doctor's appointment. Of course, one of my favorite things about Einstein's is just watching people as they come in and out. Well, most of the customers had elementary aged children & were probably on their way to school. (Elementary school starts later out here in Vegas.) It was so fun to watch all the cute kids come in and get breakfast with their parents.

At one point a dad walked in with his 2 daughters. They were laughing and joking. The dad had his Bible with him and sat it down at a table near ours. They ordered, and then one daughter sat down at the table while the dad & the other girl were at the coffee station. They called out their name for their order & the girl sitting raised her hand. They brought the food over & she snuck a bite of her younger sister's & sat their all secretive-- very cute!! She didn't start eating though... she just sat and waited for her dad and sister. When they sat down they all held hands and the dad prayed over the little girls. (At this point Lantz and I both have tears streaming down our faces... so precious.) It was obvious that this was natural and that the older sister knew she needed to wait before she started eating.

Then they ate a little & while they were still eating the dad opened the Bible and started reading to the girls. The girls were totally entranced with his reading and ate and just listened to their dad. You could tell they were interested in what he was reading & saying to them. (Again... Lantz I are both crying.) They were definitely having a Bible- bagel date together. How precious.

So Lantz and I made up this theory that the dad takes the two girls out for breakfast at least once a week to pray and study with them.... that this was their special bonding time & it revolved around the Lord. It made both of our hearts ache for the desire to share the Lord with Kennedie in special ways like we saw this morning. When the dad and girls were out it was very natural... it didn't look "out of the blue" or "rehearsed" or "habit" they were simply sharing their morning with each other centered around God the Father. Beautiful.

What a wonderful way to start this morning thinking about our own daughter. Maybe one day we'll have our own Bible-bagel dates!

Plan B Giveaway

My awesome husband is doing a book giveaway on his blog. Click HERE for details. Good luck!!

Not alot going on here. This past weekend we went to some friend's house for dinner & had a great time. We bought Lantz a suit... he didn't have one that fit & he's doing a wedding in a few weeks. After church Sunday night Lantz & the kids played softball. If you are wondering about me- I'm just getting bigger & ready to meet my baby girl. Only 16 more days to go!!
