Kennedie & Co. Nursery

Well, you've waited long enough... or maybe that's me... anyways... I'm proud to present to you our sweet little girl's "Kennedie & Co. Nursery." Bear with me, I have worked really hard and have lots of pictures... so this is a warning that you are probably going to get an overload of pictures and information. I'll apologize in advance...I'm just so excited about how it turned out! My family is really anxious to see all the "details" of the room, so if you just want to see pictures you may want to skip to the bottom and view the slide show.

First of all, this was a very awkward space to work with... we have two windows in a corner and then two doors on one wall. Plus the space is pretty tiny compared to our other rooms, so that made it a bit of a challenge with the size of our furniture. Also, we really wanted something fun, sassy, and bold... not your typical nursery-- we kinda want to see her grow into the room which is why we tried not to make it to babyish. Plus Lantz and I are super frugal so we tried to do this as much on a budget as possible.

We'll start with what you see when you walk into the room. I love that the Tiffany & Co. turquoise doesn't over power the room & that there are just tiny hints of it. I like that the black makes it a very bold room:

Now lets look at her dresser/ changing station. Remember that we got the dresser off of Craig's List for $80 and that it is solid wood. Lantz painted it black and added cute little "bling" hardware to accent the room. The changing box is from Ross- $10. My mom made the lamp to look chandelier-like since we couldn't afford a real chandelier. The lamp was on sale for $10 at Hobby Lobby & she added $1 pearl/diamond jewelry to finish it off. The mirror looks gold for some reason in the pictures but it's really silver in person. It was $20 at Ross. Notice the cute Kennedie & Co. box with diamonds laying in the material. Okay:

Alrighty, now for the side table that Lantz made. I explained to him that I wanted something small that I could stick a basket in on the top shelf and have books on the bottom shelf. I found a basket at Ross for like $5 and then painted it the same color as the room (Behr - Sweet Raphsody), and then he measured and cut the wood according to the basket. I love how it turned out & that it was under $20 for him to make. On the side table I have a small lamp ($10) and a figurine ($5) from Ross, along with a small clock, Tiffany box, and diamonds.

Above the side table I have 3 hanging shelfs with some decor. My mom made the "bling" bottle and pacifier, and the Damask "picture" behind it is actually a paper plate from my shower. You can see a little card box that matches the changing box, diamonds, and the letter "K" that was made by a friend. Next to the side table you'll see the rocking chair & ottoman. The rocking chair was a $20 Craig's List purchase painted black. We just added some throw blankets over the back (the crown & Kennedie blanket was a gift from a friend), and a chandelier pillow purchased from The black ottoman doubles also as storage-- from Target for $20.

The curtains are great! They block out like 99% of light and help the electricity bill and help block out noise. I found them on sale at Walmart for $10 a panel!!! I love that there is the small detail of "bling" on the rods. We got the rods from Lowes and then painted them black because they were originally a brown color.

Okay, so her bed is the only piece of furniture that we bought new. It is a DaVinci Emily crib and it had great ratings. We bought it off of Target online using gift cards from the shower. Her bedding is Trend Lab Versaille and it helped inspire the room. My mom made the Tiffany & Co. jewelry box top inspired pillow, and Lantz really wanted a panda bear in her room since we were doing black and white. Above her bed the black mirror, and 2 silver picture frames were purchased at Goodwill for $2- $3 each and we just painted them. The "Glam" picture with dress was from my mom, the "K" was made by Lantz's cousin, and the Kennedie & Co. jewelry box top was from her baby shower.

Finally, the wall between her closet door & the room door. Again, this was a very awkward space because I didn't want to put anything between the two doors so I could have easy access to the closet. So- a friend gave me the two picture frames that match her bedding, so one holds a picture of Lantz and me & the other holds one of Kennedie's 4D sonogram picture.

There you have it!! If you made it through this entire post I'm very impressed. I wanted to document the whole room for my files, and also for family who I know are very interested with how it all turned out.

If you just wanted to skip to the bottom to see all the pictures then here they are in a slide show:

Now all that is missing is our sweet baby girl! I can't wait to bring Miss K home and show her her glammed-out, bling-bling, bold nursery!!!

Oh... P.S. I put her room on HGTV's Rate My Space. If you are feeling very friendly and generous I'd love for you to go over and rate it (a 5 would be awesome). Just click HERE to go over & rate it.

37 Weeks

Only 3 weeks left until Miss K's due date!!! It's weird, last week I only gained one pound, and this week I gained 5!!! Whoa!! The doctor said that she is looking good, and that she's just on the small side... but she is healthy looking and that's all that matters!

Pictures of her "bling-bling" nursery coming soon.... almost done!!!

My friend Aja is doing a giveaway for the Mark of the Lion book series--- all 3!!! I'm so excited that she is doing this because I love these books! I'm not entering because I've read them and love them, and I want someone to win who hasn't read them so that they will love them too! Just click HERE and go on over and comment on her post to enter. Good luck, and thanks Aja for doing this!!

Sweet Baby Girl

Today we had our sonogram to check on Miss Kennedie to make sure that she was not too small. We won't see the doctor again until Thursday, but the sonogram technician had some good news for us. It seems that our little girl is exactly that-- just little. Everything seems to be just fine with the placenta and umbilical cord, and her whole body is measuring in proportion to itself. The technician said that she looks to be about 5 & 1/2 pounds, and she is in the 26th percentile. She said that "normal" is anywhere between the 20th to the 80th percentile... so she's on the smaller side of normal, but she is normal! She said that she seems to be measuring 5 days smaller than what I really am- which is nothing to worry about. She said they only worry if babies are measuring 2 weeks smaller.

So yeah!!! Praise God!!! Thank you to everyone who lifted a prayer on our behalf.... words cannot express our gratitude. God is so good and so faithful. I'm going to ask that you continue to lift us in prayer as we await our little girl's arrival in 25 days (or less.... or more).

Now to some fun.... while we were in the sonogram room the technician asked us if she could "try out" her 4D sonogram, and we were like, "Um... YES!!" So, we were very blessed with free 4D pictures of our baby girl (it would have cost us $180 if we had requested it). Kennedie is so funny. She would not turn so that we could see her whole face... she only let us see her profile... which is too adorable!! She also kept trying to put her hand in front of her face to hide. Oh- and she was making little "crying-like" faces.... it was just so cute! Needless to say Lantz and I both had major tears streaming down our faces while looking at that little screen.... we were so thankful for the good news, and so happy to see our Miss K (we hadn't seen her since before Christmas).

Okay... here they are:

Also, if you didn't check out Lantz's post on his blog last Thursday after our doctor's appointment, you must head over and read it.... It is written to baby Kennedie, and I sure did cry after reading it. Click HERE to check it out.

Thank you again for all your prayers!

Maternity Pictures

When we were back home in Texas for Spring Break, we did our maternity pictures. I really love how they turned out. My mom took them for us using our camera, and then I edited them back in Vegas. They were taken when I was about 33 weeks along in the pregnancy. There were lots of great shots, but these are just a few of my favorites.

36 Weeks

Wow!! Only 4 more weeks to go! I'm so excited, but also so nervous. Today we had a doctor's appointment, and she wants me to have another sonogram on Monday to check Miss Kennedie's growth. She thinks she may be a little small.... which has done nothing but worry me all afternoon. I've been trying to pray about it and not worry because there is nothing I can do to solve this problem. God has taken amazing care of Miss K so far, and so I just need to trust that He'll continue to do so. I think it scared me so much because about a month ago we asked if we could have another sonogram and our doctor told us that she doesn't like to do them this late in the pregnancy unless there is something she's worried about.... and then today she's like... "I think I'm going to have you do another sonogram because she's measuring kind of small." So... yeah... that got me worried. So, I'm just going to ask all of you out there to pray for my sweet little girl that she is growing and that she'll be "big enough" and healthy, and pray for peace for myself. Thank you all.

2 Books

Over Spring Break (remember I'm behind in my blogging) I finished 2 great books!

The first book I finished was the 3rd book in the Mark of the Lion series- As Sure as the Dawn. I liked this book alot, but I don't know where it ranks out of the three in the series. I know that I liked the second one best. I liked that this one was easy to get into quickly. I also really liked that Atretes traveled with Rizpah back to Germany- it allowed me to see how the gospel may have really traveled throughout the world. It wasn't as much of a love story as I felt the other two were. This one allowed me to actually understand how some biblical things- like speaking in tongues- may have looked in that time period. There was one part at the end that seemed a little "mystical- fairy-tale like" and so I didn't like that part of it. With that being said there really wasn't anything else I didn't like.

Okay- jist of the story: Atretes wants his son back and so he tracks down Rizpah for him. Their lives are in danger so they travel back to his homeland of Germany. While on the way Atretes becomes a Christian and marries Rizpah and can't wait to bring the gospel back to his people. Of course people reject the truth which hurts Atretes and makes him question his own faith. In the end Atretes and Rizpah end up leaving his original community and eventually some of the people from his tribe follow them and also become Christians.

It was a great read, but you have to read the other two first to appreciate this story. (P.S. I cried several times in this book... so good!)

The second book I finished was The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks.... have I ever mentioned that I LOVE Nicholas Sparks books??? I love the sweet romantic story lines to them and the fact that they are no-brainers that you can read super quick. This book was not a let down... although Dear John is still my favorite.

This one was definitely more teeny-bopper like A Walk to Remember and The Notebook, but I still enjoyed it. I think it helped that I pictured the main character as Miley Cyrus.... I love her! (Not afraid to admit I'm a huge Hannah Montana fan.) I have not seen the movie, so I don't know how they compare.

I will say that I like the fact that the love story did not end with the two teenagers having sex... thank you Nicholas Sparks for finally leaving that out of one of your books (I didn't have to skip any pages in this one). Short jist of the story: 2 kids leave New York for the summer to live with their dad in North Carolina. Ronnie, the 17 year old girl, starts out bitter towards dad and then their relationship is mended only in time to face something traumatic. During the summer she falls in love with Will. That's really the jist.

I really enjoyed this book... it was such an easy, light, quick read. I did of course cry... but I typically do in Sparks' books.

There you have it... 2 great reads!

Vegas Shower

About a week and a half ago I was blessed by wonderful friends here in Vegas with a shower for baby Kennedie. The excitement started on a Friday with a surprise baby shower at lunch from some sweet friends at school. It was such a neat surprise in the middle of my day, and people were really sweet and generous with some books, cute clothes, and gift cards.... it was a great surprise! Here is a picture from the school shower:

Then the very next day was a sweet baby shower for Miss K hosted by 2 very sweet friends at church and one sweet little 4th grade girl (future babysitter I'm sure!). Here is a picture of me with my hostesses:

It was such a beautiful shower... I was so blessed by the entire thing. It was absolutely gorgeous! It was held down on the strip at the Stirling Club which is apart of the Turnberry Towers.... the location was just sooooooo incredibly nice and fancier than I ever dreamed! The cake and fruit punch were beautiful and super yummy, and the games were so fun and super creative... I especially like the baby lotto ticket that each guest received when coming in. And of course, Miss K was spoiled crazy by all the wonderful gifts from friends. Here is a slideshow of some pictures from the shower:

Here is a picture of all of Miss K's items displayed in her room from her 2 showers here in Vegas:

And, here is a picture of 3 of her larger items in the garage waiting to be opened and put together (job for dad):

The Lord has blessed our family so much lately with an outpouring of love from friends and family as we prepare for Kennedie. I am amazed at how the Lord works through people to show HIS great love for us. I can't wait for Kennedie to come to know this powerful love of God shown through other people.

Thank you to everyone who has had a hand in pouring out love, gifts, support, and prayers on behalf of our sweet little girl.

35 Weeks!!

HOLY COW!!! There is only 5 more weeks til we get to meet our sweet little Miss K. Doctor said that she has turned already!! I would be okay if she came a little early, but not too much. Doctor Kelly said that all vital organs are healthy at 36 weeks (which would be next week), so I've been praying that we make it to 36 weeks... not that she's supposed to come any day now or anything. I'm getting so excited, but the stress level is rising.... I feel like I have so much to do and not enough time to do it all. And I have weird questions.... like.... if you are not supposed to have anything rub on the umbilical cord before it falls off--- wouldn't clothes and blankets do that?? So is she supposed to be naked until it falls off? Stuff like that floating in my head......

Any who... 35 weeks... only 5 more weeks to go. It's weird to say that because I remember when we were only 5 weeks along and I was saying only 35 more.... crazy how time flies by.

I love you my sweet little Miss Kennedie and I can't wait to meet you. I promise I'll greet you with lots of love, hugs, and kisses! Stay in as long as you need, but whenever you're ready, your daddy and I will be here awaiting the joy of your arrival!

34 Weeks

Okay, so I'm really far behind on my blogging. Please forgive me. This is my 34 week picture (even though I'll soon be 35 weeks). Things around here have been pretty crazy. I love blogging. I love to update my blog so others know what is going on with us, and I love to read other people's blogs. BUT.... right now there is so much I need to get done that does not involve blogging. So forgive me if over the next few weeks I'm a little skimpy about posting and commenting on other blogs. I still have things from Texas I want to blog about and this past weekend we had our baby shower in Vegas I want to post about. With all that being said- I don't know when I'll be blogging and when I won't- it'll probably be random.

Texas Shower

I'm sorry I'm just now getting around to posting about Kennedie's incredible baby shower back home in Texas. It's been such a crazy week. Words can't begin to describe the amount of gratitude that I feel for the outpouring of love and sweet gifts for my precious daughter. It's amazing that Miss Kennedie still has 6 more weeks (34 week picture coming) until she'll be here, and yet she is already loved so much. Kennedie's baby shower was hosted by my 2 grandmothers, Momma Jean & Baba; my 2 aunts, Aunt Danice and Aunt Darla, my sister-in-law Kristal, and my sister Heather.

I knew nothing about the shower except for the location, my Aunt Danice's house, and the time. So, it was a huge surprise to walk in and see that they went with Kennedie's nursery theme for the baby shower theme! I L.O.V.E.D. it!!!! It was such an incredible bling-bling party to celebrate our sweet girl. The great thing about it was that I actually got to keep most of the decorations, so you'll soon see some of them in her nursery back home in Vegas! Here are some pictures just of the decor:

Some of the great details that I loved: the bling & ribbon on the candles, the diamonds, the damask plates, the picture blown up of Lantz and I, the bing pacifier, the bling bottle, the awesome chandelier feel lamp, the cute little blue boxes everywhere, the feather boa, and of course the AWESOME cake!!! It was so fun to walk in and see it all!

The next picture is of a box of goodies that Momma D & Cowboy (my parents) gave Miss Kennedie. I think I'll use the box to house all of her changing station items in her room: lotion, powder, wipes, etc. It had great little pieces of decor including a pillow my mom made to look like a Tiffany's box, cute outfits, and a gift card-- but I just thought it was adorable how it was all put together.

It was such a blessing to see friends and family, and it was so neat to experience such an overflow of love from everyone there. It was amazing that there were several people who drove great distances to be us on this day of celebration. God continues to remind me how lucky we are to have such awesome friends and family. Here is a slideshow of some of the pictures from the shower (too many to put them all up, but here are a few):

Below is a picture of all of the amazing gifts that Miss K got from her friends and family back in Texas. (Yes, we were able to pack all of this into 2 extra suitcases that we brought with us!):

This coming weekend will be our Vegas shower, and I'm definitely looking forward to sharing this time of celebration with those I've grown close to here in Grace City.

Happy Birthday Heather!!

Today is my sister's birthday!!! Wow- I can't believe that Heather is 22 today! Crazy! She's getting so old... which means I'm only getting even older! I'm so thankful that over the past few years Heather and I have really been able to strengthen our relationship. Growing up- scratch that- Up until a few years ago Heather and I fought like cats and dogs. I'm so happy that we've been able to develop not only a better relationship as sisters, but also a true friendship. I know that the LORD picked Heather out especially for me as my sister. I feel truly blessed and proud that I can not only call her my sister, but also my friend.

Here are a few pictures that I was able to take of Heather and her new puppy Boone last week in Texas:

Happy Birthday Heather!!

33 Weeks & Home

So... here is the 33 week photo that was missing on Thursday. You can see that Miss Kennedie is growing, which means so is Mommy.

One of the reasons why I didn't get a chance to load this photo is because I was back home in Texas. This past week was our Spring Break, and my awesome sister-in-law Kristal was able to surprise us with some stand-by tickets so that we could have a baby shower back home. So, we flew out last Friday and just returned last night. It was such an amazing week! I feel so blessed to have been able to see family and friends during this special time in our lives. I have many stories to share, but I need to take care of some things before work tomorrow, so I'll have to blog later this week about all the fun things we were able to do!
