Redeeming Love

Okay.... I loved Twilight, but I can honestly say that I enjoyed Redeeming Love 10 times more. I'm a sucker for a good, sweet, love story- and this one gave me just that. Not only did I get the man & woman love story, but I got the most amazing love story of all time- God's love story for us. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. I could not put this book down. I started it Monday, and finished it up last night, Friday night. I probably would have finished it quicker if I didn't have to work and if i wasn't so tired with my pregnancy. I have to admit that I am sad that it's over.

So, for those of you that have never read it- it is a modern day telling of the book of Hosea in the Bible. It takes place during the California gold rush. Angel is a young girl who lives in the life of prostitution- basically the only thing she's ever known. Michael Hosea is a young, pure man of God who is a farmer. God speaks to Michael to go and marry Angel. As Michael tries to show Angel a love she has never known she eventually discovers a love she has never dreamed possible and a eternal love unimaginable to her.

If you enjoy reading at all, or even tolerate it- then this is a MUST read.

Lantz and I are supposed to trade books. He is going to attempt Redeeming Love and I am going to attempt A Million Miles in a Thousand Years.

After I finish Lantz's book, I plan on reading another of Francine Rivers books- The Scarlet Thread.

11 Weeks Today

Well, here I am at 11 weeks today. Not really much of a change, but if you look hard you can see a small bump starting to form. Also- check out my cute cowboy boots. I forgot to post a picture of them in the past, so this photo has duel purposes. I love the color, and how tall they are!

I've only had 8 people vote on my boy/girl poll. Sad. Maybe you're all still debating about it and it's been keeping you up late at night. Vote. I'm surprised it's tied right now.

Okay.... quick question: What am I NOT supposed to be eating?

Also, tomorrow is Nevada Day, so we don't have to go to school! Yeah! I think I'll sleep in and then maybe get up and read. Oh yeah, I started Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers on Monday. I'm almost done. Forget Twilight- this book is AMAZING!!! What an amazing book to share with neighbors and friends to strike up a conversation about God's amazing grace! It's sooooooo good. If you haven't read it, then you totally should.

Pregnancy

Well, I'm about 10 & 1/2 weeks along in my pregnancy. I'm feeling really good, but I'm tired. I think I could really sleep all day long if I didn't have to work. I have not had any nausea at all- which I am thankful for daily. Lantz and I both were worried that I'd be vomiting every day. Pre-pregnancy I got motion sickness and queasy very easily, but I've been blessed to not be sick to my stomach at all- yet.

I have already gained 5 pounds in 6 weeks. Do you think that is bad, or about normal?
I'm still trying to continue with my normal workout. I'm doing p90X still, but not so much to the extreme. The doctor said that it's okay to continue with things that you've been doing for awhile, but what's your opinion on it? She said just not to get my heart rate up so high. Everyone who's been pregnant before- what's your take on exercise? Did you do any of it, or not? Were you glad you did, or wish you would have, or wouldn't have?

I put up a poll to see if you think we'll have a boy or a girl. Vote and leave me a message telling me what you voted. I have no clue what we'll have. One day I think it'll be a girl, and the next I think it may be a boy. I know we have a while until we find out, but I think about it often. I am just praying for a healthy baby.

I thank God every day for allowing Lantz and I the opportunity to conceive. I know that so many people are unable to get pregnant and are unable to experience this aspect of life. I praise HIS name that he has given us this blessing. It is something I worried a little bit about. You never know if you'll be able to have a baby unless you actually start trying.

Thank you Father God for this wonderful little person that you are forming in my womb. Please continue to knit them together and make them after your own image. Help them become someone who chases after your heart and your kingdom and who is so in love with you. I pray a special blessing of health over our little one and pray that you'll strengthen them to a healthy, wonderful baby. I pray for Lantz and I that we'll be parents that come to you and allow you to guide us on this new journey. I pray for wisdom for the two of us that we'll encourage our child to walk in your ways and I pray for insight on helping our little gain their own faith to follow you. I pray for those out there that are struggling to conceive. Reign peace in their hearts and minds that they may know your hand is in all things. Allow them to recognize paths that you have set for them, and if it is your will I pray that they will be able to conceive a child who will walk in your ways. I pray for those who have lost their children. Give them peace and strength to continue to live each day for you. Grant them comfort as they mourn and learn to live with a grief that is unimaginable. Only you know what they are feeling because you to have had to suffer the death of a child. Give them your hand and understanding. Be with those who are raising children now. Grant them wisdom, patience and guidance while they try to lead their children in your paths of righteousness. Help them to lean upon others when they need help and provide people in their lives to offer Godly counsel to them. Father, as many of my friends are on one of these journeys, I pray for them and myself that in all things we try to follow in your footsteps to lead others to you. I pray all this in your most amazing son's name. Amen.

1st Annual Friends Weekend

Last weekend we had our 1st Annual Friends Weekend with Lantz's 3 best friends/old college roommates and their wives (well, 2 wives and 1 future wife). The couples included Daniel and Natalie, John and Crysty, & Anthony and Sunshine. Daniel and Natalie have the cutest little 7 month old named Kason. John & Crysty are also expecting a little one like us in May. Their baby is only 9 days ahead of us. And we are all hoping that our next Friends Weekend will be spent at Anthony & Sunshine's wedding. They all flew out to Vegas last Wednesday for a fun-filled long weekend. We enjoyed a great Vegas style weekend loaded with a trip to the Hoover Dam, a trip out to Red Rock, several visits to the strip, some shopping, and the Cirque Du Soleil show Le Reve at Wynn Hotel & Casino.

But, one of the main reasons for the weekend was that boys have been training for a sprint triathlon. So Saturday was the big Pumpkin Man race out at Boulder City that the boys competed in. They all did SOOOO great, and us wives couldn't have been any more proud of our men. They blew us away! (Of course I have to brag a bit on my Lantz and let you know that he did come in first out of his friends!) The boys had so much fun competing, and us girls had fun being the wild and crazy cheerleaders!

Here is one of Lantz & me at Red Rock:

Here is one of the boys (besties!):

Here is a slide show of the entire weekend! It's a little long, but there are some great shots of the guys doing their triathlon:

We had just an incredible weekend! I am so thankful that they guys got to see each other again, and that us girls had a chance to strengthen our relationship. I pray that God will continue to grow these friendships so that we may encourage one another on our daily walk with HIM.

Thanks for the great weekend yall! We'll see you again next year, Lord willing!

Surprise!!!!!!

We are pregnant!!!

That's right... we are expecting a little one in May! We are so excited!!! I know it's still pretty early (I'm only 10 weeks along), but we really want everyone to keep us and our little one in your prayers as we prepare to add to our family. We were fortunate enough to get pregnant on our first month trying! It seems that our "5 year plan" is working out nicely. If you know us then you know we've been planning our 5 year anniversary Europe trip since we were married, and our plan has always been to try to get pregnant soon after our trip. This works out perfect, because I can just go straight into maternity leave and not have to go back to work- just go straight into summer! What a huge blessing!

We've already had our first doctor's appointment and we got to see our little "peanut" and hear the heart beat. Lantz and I both started to cry once we heard the quick little "thump, thump." How amazing our God is!!!

Anyways, here are some photos. 2 of our little one, one of Lantz and I the morning we took the test (the photo we mailed to our parents to break the news), and then one of me at 10 weeks!

So, there you have it! The cat is out of the bag... might I add that it was hard to keep it in the bag for so long. We've known since 5 weeks. (So long small waist.) We are so excited to travel down this journey, especially after having watched so many of our friends make this trek. Please keep us in your prayers.

(P.S. Pictures of the 1st Annual Friends Weekend to come soon- the boys did so good on their triathlon!)

Two weeks ago Lantz and I went to the David Crowder concert. It was sooooooo much fun! We were in the front row, and it was incredible! His music is so different and so fun. We really had a blast. Here are some photos from the night:

Feeling Better...

Well, I am up and feeling better. I'm still not back to 100%, but I'm functionable now. It's good that I'm feeling better too, because we have friends in town now. It's so fun to have people come visit us! I'll post about several things once they leave and I'm back into the normal routine. Have a great weekend!

Sick.

I was home today sick. I feel bad- yucky sore throat, coughing like a crazy woman, aching, headache.... blah. Good thing is I don't have a temperature. I got some medicine today from the doctor. Hopefully that will help. That's about all the update you'll be getting for now. Say a prayer for me.

Oh- the David Crowder concert was AMAZING! Can we say front row??? Hopefully pictures will come soon when I get my head screwed back on.

Longhorn Salad

A few weeks ago Lantz and I went over to a friend's house to watch the UT vs Tech game. (UT won by the way! Yeah! Go Longhorns!) Anyways, while we were there he made this amazing, yummy salad. I watched him make it, and then 2 nights ago I recreated it. It was just as good. I thought I'd pass the recipe on to yall. Really... you should make it-- so, so, so good. And it's pretty good for you. (We are calling it Longhorn Salad since we don't know the name and we were watching the Longhorns while we ate it... if you're a fan of another team you can re-name it, but you should still make it!)

LONGHORN SALAD
Ingredients:
shredded lettuce
spinach
squash
1 can whole kernel corn
1 can black beans
cilantro
2 grilled chicken breast cut into bite sizes (Season with cumin)
Jalapeno Ranch dressing (Little House brand in refrigerated section by spinach bags)
Cheddar cheese (I used Jalapeno cheddar, cause I bought a big block at Sams last week- I'd
I'd recommend the jalapeno cheddar cause it's so good in it.)
Pico de Gallo (I made it fresh, but you could buy a little container. If you make it fresh all you
have to do is dice up fresh tomatoes, purple onion, cilantro, & jalapeno, and
then toss in some fresh lime juice. I recommend making it your self because
the salad tastes fresher and you can control the temp. Add less jalapenos and
onions for milder and add more to make it hotter.)

Directions:

Add shredded lettuce to big bowl. Chop/dice spinach up to look similar to shredded lettuce (about the same amount as the lettuce), and then add to the lettuce and toss till equally mixed up. Chop up raw squash into small bites. Add to lettuce to add a "crunch." Add bite sized chicken. Drain corn and black beans and run water over it to get all the 'mush' off of them. Add to bowl of lettuce. Add pico de gallo. Add some fresh chopped cilantro. Add shredded cheese. Add 2 tablespoons of jalapeno ranch. Mix together. Eat and Enjoy! Yummy. Here are some photos:

Breaking Dawn

Well, last night I finished the last book of the Twilight series, Breaking Dawn. I have to say that I was NOT disappointed!!! I loved it, loved it, loved it. I'm glad that nothing stupid at the end happened and that it all worked out kinda liked I pictured it would. I don't want to give anything away, so I'm not going to say much except that you need to pick this series up if you haven't already. I think I can honestly say that these were some of my favorite books ever- I think my favorite one was this one, then the first one, then the third one, and the second one was my least favorite, but I understand why it was written. I think as much as I hated the second one I liked it because it made me value the others.

So yeah... like 2,000 pages in a month ain't bad at the start of school when life is all crazy. I don't think I've read that much, that fast ever before.

I'm not going to lie... I'm sad it's all over with. What to look forward to now?

I think there should be a book about Renesme and Jacob. And, whatever happened to poor Leah? Does she ever imprint on anyone? And, did Rosalie ever really like Bella, or was she only in to have the baby? Are they actually friends now? So yeah... some random questions I still have. I think this justifies another book.

Staff Development Day

Today was Staff Development Day at school. I typically look forward to these days, because I get a nice little break from my students. Sometimes it's just nice to be the one sitting and receiving instead of the one up giving and delivering. Well, I'm not sure if it's the suddenly cool weather that is upon us, or what, but today was kinda a drag. I just wanted to go back to bed. My morning didn't start out so great to start with just because my alarm didn't go off- lucky for me it wasn't a school day, and I still had time to throw some clothes on and make it in time. The topics of todays Staff Day were "Juggalo Gangs" (on our campus) and "School Violence." Talk about some uplifting and encouraging topics. Ugh. Like I wasn't a little nervous to start with with some of my kids- lets just go and scare me telling me how they may pull a gun out, or join a gang and slash other people up.

I mean, the presentations were really good and interesting- and things we should probably be aware of, but talk about a "Debbie Downer." It was just such a blah day. And like I said, it didn't help that cold weather was factored in, my alarm didn't go off, and our lunch break got cut short 15 minutes. So yeah.... it's all over with now and tomorrow I can go back to hanging out with my middle schoolers and get back into the swing of things.

The Week

We got our school photos on Monday. Here's mine:

Wednesday was Lantz's 29th birthday! Wow! Happy Birthday again Sweetie! We celebrated on Tuesday night with a trip to one of our favorite restaurants- Texas De Brazil. If you have never eaten here, then you must make arrangements soon. It is so good! It's a little pricey just to warn you, but worth every penny. You can choose items on their gourmet salad bar including some amazing lobster bisque, and then men walk around holding swords of freshly grilled meat that you can eat. I just stick to the steak cause it's so good. You can just eat, and eat, and eat, and eat... it's so awesome! We had a great waitress too! She brought Lantz and slice of their cheesecake for his birthday- it was supper yummy! Lantz got a new triathlon wetsuit and some new shirts for his birthday.
Wednesday we had a cool front come through, and I got to wear my new ACU sweatshirt that I got this summer on our trip to Abilene. It was fun to wear it to church! In a few weeks we have "College Shirt Day" at school, and I can't wait to wear it again!

Thursday we had our small group- always good and uplifting times with our family away from family!

Today I think I will take a nap after I read some. I'm excited to take a nap- that normally only happens on Saturday or Sunday. Oh, speaking of reading- I think I forgot to let yall know that I finished the 3rd Twilight book- Eclipse. It was SOOOOO good. I really, really liked that one alot- except for a few parts here and there. I am currently about half way through Breaking Dawn (4th Twilight book)- and I L.O.V.E. it so far. I hope nothing stupid happens before the end of the book, otherwise I'll be really mad. Well, have a great weekend!
